Join unique calls for support, launched by the creative team of Laisvės TV

When a TV host Andrius Tapinas launched an initiative for Lithuanians to raise EUR 5,000,000 to buy a Turkish military drone Bayraktar, they set the target for three weeks and thought of various campaigns to keep up the interest over that extended time.

What has happened is definitely a historic event, that has once again proved that everything is possible when there is a strong will and inspiring idea.

For the first time ever, a record time of fewer than 80 hours or 3.5 days, civilians from Lithuania and elsewhere donated over USD 6,383,396 (and the money are still pouring in). The initiative was supported and facilitated by the Lithuanian and Turkish Ministries of Defense. Moreover, when our Minister of Defense Arvydas Anušauskas and vice-minister Vilius Semeška flew to the Baykar factory to negotiate the final terms of the deal, the Bayraktar makers donated the drone for free and asked to use the crowdfunded amount for humanitarian needs.

It was my great honor and pleasure to award Andrius Tapinas with a Paul Harris Fellow designation back in May 2020 in my capacity as the District Governor. It was only the third such case in Lithuanian Rotary history when PHF was awarded to non-Rotarian. Every new initiative Andrius launches with his team reaffirms how well deserved this nomination was. And, as Andrius wrote himself, he is always wearing a bracelet with engraved words from the famous quote by Muhammad Ali: "Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing."
